The Swiss Flag is made up of a white equilateral cross on a red field. It derives from a similar banner of the Holy Roman Empire, and thus indicates strong connotations with Christianity.

Traditionally, the Swiss flag stands for freedom, honour and fidelity. Historically, the motto “Honor et Fidelitas” was inscribed on the cross of several Swiss mercenary flags of the 18th century.

More recently, the Swiss flag, and its association with consistent Swiss foreign policy, is associated with neutrality, democracy, peace and refuge.
